Unfortunately, danger soon finds her as she is plagued with whispers of the past and begins to wield the forbidden Aether.
Now, with the ruthless Commander Francois hunting for the prophesized Aether-wielder, Circe and her friends uncover a truth buried deep inside the academy—she might be their only hope to end the century-long war.

But loyalties are tested when Cara, Circe, and Ajax find out Daemon has been holding a vital secret from them this whole time: his parents are leaders of the Resurgence—a rebel faction that strives to dethrone Belcepit's corrupted King and reunite the continent as one.
However, Marisulae struggles with its own problems. The desiccated bodies of innocent men, women, and children begin appearing after nightfall, and whispers of monsters ignite fear across the village.
Yet as Circe juggles the investigation, rigorous training, and her growing feelings for Ajax, a ghost from her past reemerges. Will she survive the pressure as Quintem's savior, or will the never-ending obstacles drown her in the raging tides of war?
