What is The Elemental Saga?

The Elemental Saga is a five-part epic romantasy series following Circe Starr, an eighteen-year-old girl who manifests a forbidden type of magic, and her companions around the continent of Quintem to dethrone the corrupt king of her lands.

What is Flames About?

A hundred years ago, in the lands of Quintem, a war broke out between its five nations. Rumors have spread about what started this war, and there seems to be one detail they share: a queen wielding all five elements. Yet, Circe Starr has always suspected her nation, Belcepit, as the instigator.

As her eighteenth birthday rolls around, she, along with the other graduates in her year, prepares to be separated into one of the three factions of Belcepit: Nightfighters, Nurturers, or Scribes.

But the clumsy and petite Circe is unexpectedly sorted as a Nightfighter. Despite her odds and under the careful watch of Ajax Mariani, Circe surprisingly masters all four elements. Unfortunately, danger soon finds her as she is plagued with whispers of the past and begins to wield the forbidden Aether.

Now, with the ruthless Commander Francois hunting for the prophesized Aether-wielder, Circe and her friends uncover a truth buried deep inside the academy—she might be their only hope to end the century-long war.

The Writing Process

This is the first series I've ever written from scratch. In the past, I've adapted D&D campaigns into novels, but I've never written my own story, and it was a very different experience!

When writing Flames, I wanted to do something different, especially with the romantasy aspect. Although I love the trope of a tall, dark, brooding man who has a heart despite his callous introduction to the female protagonist, I wanted to do something different.

I'm a huge activist for mental health and believe it's so important to accurately depict the neurodiverse community. We've come a long way regarding mental health, but we still have much farther to go. To spread awareness of what goes on in a neurodiverse mind, I've decided to write my books from the viewpoints of characters who suffer from some type of mental illness.

In this case, Circe Starr is a victim of domestic violence and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result. In most cases I've seen in books that touch upon this, the characters are miraculously healed when they find the perfect person. And that is so far from the truth.

This series isn't just about Circe's role as the queen's 'chosen one'; it's also about the emotional and psychological journey through her recovery as she experiences what a healthy relationship feels like.
